Winter is no reason to stay inside.  The Winter season will soon be upon us, are you prepared?

This workshop offers instruction in safe Winter mountain travel. Among the many available classes, most every aspect of winter backcountry travel is covered. The weekend is filled with instruction, field exercises, lectures, and discussions. And when you are not learning, there is plenty of great food to fuel you back up!

Once again this winter, the NH Chapter will sponsor two training workshops. They are designed to teach you what you need to know for safe travel in the winter mountains; what to wear, what to take, how to use it, how to get there, how to get back, and how to plan for the unplanned. All sections include extensive time outdoors.

The weekend is loaded with learning, fun, and great food starting at 6:00pm Friday evening thru 4:00pm  Sunday afternoon.  The workshops are conducted at Cardigan Lodge.

A variety of instructional groups are offered covering most aspects of safe backcountry winter travel.  Your time will be divided between your individual group and activities for the entire workshop.

Due to COVID-19 we will be following CDC guidelines for  indoor  groups that may be in place  at the time of the workshop.

Specific protocols for Cardigan Lodge will be emailed to registered  participants

Then you are the perfect candidate for this course! We will take your survival instinct and hone it; teaching you how to safely cross-country ski outside the resort, and yet satisfy your child-like curiosity.
You will learn how to navigate uneven terrain and ungroomed snow on your nordic skis, starting with the basics of how to stop and turn on flat ground and gentle slopes, and progressing to steeper and rolling terrain over the course of the weekend. We will also review the wilderness skills and tools you need to be safe and self-sufficient outside of the resort.
Prerequisites: Participants do not need prior backcountry skiing experience, but they should already be comfortable skiing up and down gentle hills on groomed snow, on their nordic equipment.
Equipment: Metal-edged cross-country/nordic skis with scales or wax and NNN-BC or 3-pin bindings, or similar. Climbing skins or kicker skins may be useful, but are not required. Backpack, etc… see list
